MonotonesBook-of-LoveSome hits come about in the strangest ways. Legend has it that Monotones member Charles Patrick heard a commercial for Pepsodent toothpaste including the line “You’ll wonder where the yellow went…” and wrote a hit. From that was born “(Wonder Who Wrote) The Book of Love.” Released in 1958 on Argo records, the 45 is worth up to $50.00. But it was first issued in 1957 on Mascot records. A copy on that label can sell for $600.00 today. “Book of Love” is just one of the over 1,000,000 record values you’ll find listed on the “Mighty John Record Appraisal Guide” on CD, available in the left hand column. It covers albums, 45s, and 78s by over 65,000 recording artists. Also check out our new companion guide, “Records You Should Know About.” Just click on the link in the yellow strip above.
