October 3, 2021 Record of the Day

The most successful songwriter for Motown is Smokey Robinson. Besides writing hits for his own group, the Miracles, he did the same for Mary Wells, the Marvelettes, the Contours, the Supremes, and Marvin Gaye. He also wrote hits for the Temptations like “The Way You Do the Things You Do” and “My Girl.” In 1965 the Temptations showed their appreciation for Smokey Robinson by recording the album “The Temptations Sing Smokey.” Released on Motown’s Gordy record label, a copy is worth up to $125.00 today.
