January 22, 2023 Record of the Day

The Cleftones began their career by singing jingles for a school election at Jamaica High School in New York. When they turned pro they were one of the few groups at the time to get an attorney to negotiate their contract. Smart! Their first hit came in 1956 with “Little Girl Of Mine.” In 1961 they took an old standard, “Heart and Soul,” and hit again. That 45 can fetch $40.00 today. The album, “Heart and Soul,” released on Gee Records, is worth up to $300.00 in stereo and up to $500.00 in mono.
