Neil Diamond is as recognizable as any recording star of the last 50 years with almost 100 million records sold including 35 top-40 hits and 18 platinum albums. It all began in 1963 when Columbia Records issued the single, “Clown Town.” It wasn’t a hit but it set the stage for the remarkable career that followed. Texas Alexander was an early Blues singer who started his career in the bottom-lands of the Bravos River. In 1928, almost 35 years before the Animals had their number 1 version, Alexander recorded “The House of the Rising Sun.” He had over 15 singles on the Okeh record label. All of them like “Frost Texas Tornado Blues” are worth up to $1,000.00 each.

Look for the Supremes’ first album, “Meet the Supremes.” First issues show Diana Ross and the Supremes sitting on stools. 2nd issues show face shots of the girls. The face shot albums are worth up to $75.00. However, copies showing them sitting on stools are worth up to $800.00 today.

The Band’s debut album, “Music From Big Pink, was released in 1968 shortly after they began backing up Bob Dylan. The album is considered to be revolutionary and, according to Rolling Stone Magazine, one of the greatest Rock N Roll albums of all time even though it’s not certified gold. The best-known single from the album is “The Weight.” It’s worth no more than $10.00 but an original copy of the album on Capitol Records can sell for $250.00 today.

The Skyliners had one of the great Doo-Wop songs of all time with their 1959 hit, “Since I Don’t Have You.” Thirteen different record labels rejected the group and their now famous song before Calico Records said yes. The 45 can sell for $50.00 today. Their follow up hit was “This I Swear.” Both can be found on their only album for Calico Records. “The Skyliners,” released in 1959, is worth up to $400.00 today.

In 1927, Perfect Records released the 78 rpm single, “Babe & Lou” (the Home Run Twins), by Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig. They don’t sing but instead do a comedy routine. The record may have a different value to a collector of Yankees or sports memorabilia but to a record collector, the value is up to $250.00 today.

January 30, 2026 Records of the Day

Larry Williams recorded some of Rock N Roll’s most enduring classics like “Short Fat Fannie,” “Bony Maroni,” and “Dizzy Miss Lizzy.” Each of these 45’s can sell for $30.00. His story was like many: a quick rise to fame, then a downfall to drugs, prison and sadly, suicide. His 1959 album, “Here’s Larry Williams,” released by Specialty Records, is worth up to $300.00 today. Re-issues have 1980’s info and copyright date on back cover and are worth no more than $10.00.

Ike & Tina Turner was one of the most successful, prolific hit-making duos of all time. Ike played on Jackie Brenston’s “Rocket 88” in 1951, which many consider the first Rock N Roll record and worth up to $750.00. Tina made her debut under the name “Little Ann” along with Ike on the 1958 release of “Boxtop” on Tune Town Records. Its worth up to $2,000.00 today.

Jan Berry of famed singing duo Jan and Dean was as important to the California surf music craze as Brian Wilson. In 1966, Berry’s career was derailed when he crashed his Corvette in Beverly Hills. He will always be best known for his hits with partner Dean on such classics as “Surf City” and the prophetic “Dead Man’s Curve,” which can now sell for $75.00 with picture sleeve. In 1965, Jan Berry released a solo 45 called “The Universal Coward.” Issued on Liberty Records, it’s worth up to $200.00 with its picture sleeve.
