In 1927 Perfect Records released the 78rpm single, “Babe & Lou” (the Homerun Twins), by Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig. They don’t sing but instead do a comedy routine. The record may have a different value to a collector of Yankees or sports memorabilia but to a record collector, the value is up to $250.00 today.

September 15, 2022 Record of the Day

Dwight Yoakam was first rejected by Nashville for being “too country.” So he headed to California where his hero Buck Owens lived. His 1984 EP on Oak records, “Guitar, Cadillacs, etc.” helped him get that Nashville deal after all. Reprise Records added four songs. The LP version on Reprise from 1986 is worth no more than $10.00 but the Oak Records original from 1984 is worth up to $1,000.00 today.

September 14, 202 Record of the Day

Pledging My Love” by Johnny Ace is one of Rock N Roll’s early classics. With the mystery surrounding the death of Johnny Ace, supposedly from playing Russian Roulette, the song has become legendary. A 78 or 45 rpm version on Duke Records from 1955 has two separate values. Copies with added background voices are worth up to $40.00. But copies without background voices are up to $125.00 today. September 13, 2022 Record of the Day

The Bachs was a psychedelic garage band out of Chicago who played at school dances and private parties. They never made it nationally but they developed a huge fan base over the years. Their 1968 original album, “Out Of the Bachs,” released on Roto Records, has become one of the most sought after records on the collectors market. A mint copy of this rare album is worth up to $7,500.00 today.

September 12, 2022 Records of the Day

The Chiffons was one of the best known girl-groups of the sixties with hits like “One Fine Day” and “A Love So Fine.” Their biggest hit, “He’s So Fine,” was released on Laurie Records in 1963 and is worth up to $40.00 today. But their first single, “Tonight’s The Night,” issued by Big Deal Records, is now worth up to $150.00.

September 11, 2022 Record of the Day

All Shook Up” by Elvis Presley shot up the Billboard charts in March of 1957. It stayed at number 1 for eight weeks in a row. It was also Elvis’ first number 1 song on the British charts. With sales of two million copies, Billboard listed it as the number 1 song for all of 1957. The 45, with picture sleeve, released by RCA, is worth up to $150.00 today.

September 10, 2022 Record of the Day

The Green Hornet first came to the TV screen in 1966 with Van Williams as the Green Hornet and playboy publishing mogul, Britt Reid. His side-kick, Kato, was played by the legendary Bruce Lee. Also starring was Black Beauty, their weapons-loaded car. Only twenty six episodes were filmed. The 1966 “Green Hornet” soundtrack album, released by 20th Century Fox, is worth up to $250.00 today. “The Green Hornet” is just one of the 10,000 soundtracks on our Soundtracks guide on CD. In 1963 Hull Records released the album, “Your favorite Singing Groups,” featuring Doo-Wop recording artists like the Monotones, the Elegants, the Desires, the Avons, the Beltones, the Pastels, and more. “Louie Louie” is one of the greatest Rock N Roll party records of all time. It’s one of those classics that every generation seems to know. Although Paul Revere and the Raider’s version came out before the Kingsmen’s, it’s the Kingsmen’s version that will live forever in Rock N Roll history. Singles released on the Wand label are worth no more than $20.00 but a copy on the Jerden label can sell up to $200.00 today. Both Wand and Jerden copies are shown here.

“Stormy Weather” by the Five Sharps is considered to be the most collectible Doo-wop record. Released on Jubilee Records in 1952, the record received some airplay but was soon relegated to the dust bins of record stores. But find one in the dust bins or anywhere else and you have found a record worth up to $20,000.00 today. Only 78’s, as shown here, are originals. All known 45’s are counterfeits.
