“Ten Little Indians” was one of the Beach Boy’s lesser hits, never coming close to their giant hits of the same period such as “Surfin Safari” and “Surfin U.S.A.” “Ten Little Indians” was the second single to be released from their “Surfin Safari” album. However, the 45 released on Capitol Records in 1962, is worth up to $150.00 with its picture sleeve.

The Skyliners had one of the great Doo-Wop songs of all time with their 1959 hit, “Since I Don’t Have You.” Thirteen different record labels rejected the group and their now famous song before Calico Records said yes. The 45 can sell for $50.00 today. Their follow up hit was “This I Swear.” Both can be found on their only album for Calico Records. “The Skyliners,” released in 1959, is worth up to $400.00 today.

Reba McEntire is a world famous Country music star and actress with her own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. With record sales over 60 million, it all began with the release of her self-titled album in 1977. Released on Mercury Records, “Reba McEntire” is worth up to $100.00 today.

October 4, 2022 Record of the Day

Chances are anything Beach Boys related is collectible. In 1961, Safari Records released the first single produced by Brian Wilson. Also written by Brian Wilson, “Surfer Moon” was recorded by Bob Norberg and Sheri Pomeroy. Original copies with a light blue label are worth up to $1,500.00 today. October 3, 2022 Record of the Day

“The Fuzzy Pink Nightgown” was a 1957 movie from United Artists, starring Jane Russell. Although a black and white film, “The Fuzzy Pink Nightgown” had little entertainment except for when Russell wears the nightgown. October 2, 2022 Records of the Day

Larry Williams recorded some of Rock N Roll’s most enduring classics like “Short Fat Fannie,” “Bony Maroni,” and “Dizzy Miss Lizzy.” Each of these 45’s can sell for $30.00. His story was like many: a quick rise to fame, then a downfall to drugs, prison and sadly, suicide. His 1959 album, “Here’s Larry Williams,” released by Specialty Records, is worth up to $300.00 today. Re-issues have 1980’s info and copyright date on back cover and are worth no more than $10.00.

Frankie Beverly never had any big hits on his own but he and his group, the Butlers, were good enough to open for Marvin Gaye at some of his concerts. When Northern Soul became a highly collectible record category, some of Frankie Beverly’s records became much sought after like “Because Of My Heart.” Released on Fairmount Records in 1967, it’s worth up to $2,500.00 today. The same single by the Butlers with Frankie Beverly, released a year earlier on Rouser Records, can now fetch up to $7,000.00.

 

September 30, 2022 Record of the Day

In 1958 one-hit wonder Robin Luke wrote and recorded a song inspired by his five-year-old sister. “Susie Darlin” reached number 5 on the Billboard Top 100. First issued on International Records as shown here, it’s worth up to $500.00 with its picture sleeve. Most copies can be found on Dot Records and worth no more than $20.00 unless the vinyl is red as seen here. Then the value jumps up to $2,000.00.

September 29, 2022 Records of the Day

Ike & Tina Turner was one of the most successful, prolific hit-making duos of all time. Ike played on Jackie Brenston’s “Rocket 88” in 1951, which many consider to be the first Rock N Roll record and worth up to $750.00. Tina made her début under the name “Little Ann” along with Ike on the 1958 release of “Boxtop” on Tune Town Records. Its worth up to $2,000.00 today.

September 28, 2022 Records of the Day

Jan Berry of famed singing duo Jan and Dean was as important to the California surf music craze as Brian Wilson. In 1966 Berry’s career was derailed when he crashed his Corvette in Beverly Hills. He will always be best known for his hits with partner Dean on such classics as “Surf City” and the prophetic “Dead Man’s Curve,” which can now sell for $75.00 with picture sleeve. In 1965 Jan Berry released a solo 45 called “The Universal Coward.” Issued on Liberty Records, it’s worth up to $200.00 with its picture sleeve.
