For a long time it was thought that “Maybellene” was the first recording featuring Chuck Berry. But it is now known that a few months prior to the release of “Maybellene,” which can sell for $75.00, Chuck was playing guitar with Joe Alexander and the Cubans on the 1955 single, “Oh Maria.” Released by Ballad Records, a copy of that 45 is now worth up to $1500.00.

Here’s a record you should know about. Grace Brim was one of the few female Blues artists in Chicago after the end of World War ll. She often played harmonica and sang on the records recorded by her husband, John Brim. On her first release, “Hospitality Blues,” she also played drums. Issued by J.O.B. Records in 1952, it’s worth up to $4,500.00 today. The Band’s debut album, “Music From Big Pink, was released in 1968 shortly after they began backing up Bob Dylan. The album was considered to be revolutionary and according to Rolling Stone Magazine is one of the greatest Rock N Roll albums of all time even though it’s not certified gold. The best-known single from the album is “The Weight.” It’s worth no more than $10.00 but an original copy of the album on Capitol Records can sell for $250.00 today

Teresa Brewer was one of the most popular female singers of the 1950’s, recording almost 600 songs. Her first big hit, “Music! Music! Music!” was number 1 on the charts for ten weeks in 1950. A lot of people remember the hit as “Put Another Nickel in the Nickelodeon” and can now sell for 500 nickels. Her next big hit came in 1953 with “Til I Waltz Again With You.” Her debut album “Teresa Brewer,” released by London Records in 1951, is worth up to $100.00 today.

“Ten Little Indians” was one of the Beach Boy’s lesser hits, never coming close to their giant hits of the same period such as “Surfin Safari” and “Surfin U.S.A.” “Ten Little Indians” was the second single to be released from their “Surfin Safari” album. However, the 45 released on Capitol Records in 1962, is worth up to $150.00 with its picture sleeve.

The Skyliners had one of the great Doo-Wop songs of all time with their 1959 hit, “Since I Don’t Have You.” Thirteen different record labels rejected the group and their now famous song before Calico Records said yes. The 45 can sell for $50.00 today. Their follow up hit was “This I Swear.” Both can be found on their only album for Calico Records. “The Skyliners,” released in 1959, is worth up to $400.00 today.

Reba McEntire is a world famous Country music star and actress with her own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. With record sales over 60 million, it all began with the release of her self-titled album in 1977. Released on Mercury Records, “Reba McEntire” is worth up to $100.00 today.

Chances are anything Beach Boys related is collectible. In 1961, Safari Records released the first single produced by Brian Wilson. Also written by Brian Wilson, “Surfer Moon” was recorded by Bob Norberg and Sheri Pomeroy. Original copies with a light blue label are worth up to $1,500.00 today. “The Fuzzy Pink Nightgown” was a 1957 movie from United Artists, starring Jane Russell. Although a black and white film, “The Fuzzy Pink Nightgown” had little entertainment except for when Russell wears the nightgown. Larry Williams recorded some of Rock N Roll’s most enduring classics like “Short Fat Fannie,” “Bony Maroni,” and “Dizzy Miss Lizzy.” Each of these 45’s can sell for $30.00. His story was like many: a quick rise to fame, then a downfall to drugs, prison and sadly, suicide. His 1959 album, “Here’s Larry Williams,” released by Specialty Records, is worth up to $300.00 today. Re-issues have 1980’s info and copyright date on back cover and are worth no more than $10.00.
