May 12, 2021 Records of the Day

The Chantays recorded an instrumental in 1962 that was originally called “Liberty’s Whip.” But, because of the Surf Music craze in the U.S.A at the time, the title was changed to “Pipeline” and a top-10 classic was born. The original 45 on Downey Records is worth up to $100.00. The “Pipeline” album, also on Downey Records, can sell for $200.00 today. Copies on the Dot record label are worth much less at up to $40.00.
